Vanduo Tuk Origins

They are a land dwelling species that evolved from a water dwelling species. The paws

and fins are left over from their water loving ancestors. Their fins were longer and the

paws more like flippers. Their tails were shorter, flatter and had a fin at the end. Their

manes were also smaller.

They come from a distant planet that was almost completely covered in water. At the time,

they lived in the shallow, warm areas of the planet. Their planet, once peaceful, was

terraformed to be able to sustain land life. The terraforming caused the planet and many

species to change. Many species became hostile and the Vanduo Tuk became land

animals.

They are usually no bigger than a common house cat, but can reach sizes of that of a

Great Dane. They are not blind, but the eyes only have one color and no pupils. The tail

is longer than their bodies. All have long ears and saber teeth. The manes around their

necks is to provide warmth as their body fur is super short and thin. They have no natural

colors and can be any color of the rainbow in any combination.

They live in or around humid and marshy areas. Since their fur is so short and thin, they

need the heat, but prefer moist areas. They love to climb and will often sleep in trees,

though they live on the ground in burrows made of rotting leaves, mud or anything they

can find.

Their color will depend on their environment and what things they use as housing. When

they are born, they are pure white and after their home is built, their fur changes to the

color of the items they used.

Since their fur is pure white as a baby, they are very vulnerable and are completely dependent on the parents for food. Pairs mate for life. Young are born live, not in eggs, and usually only 2 to 4 in a litter.

Males have a larger mane and tuft on the end of their tail. Females' mane is smaller and they do not have a tuft on their tail. Juvenile Vanduo Tuk live with parents until they are 1 year old. At that time they are able to find their own den. Once they build their own den, their fur will start growing in the color of their den.

They are a curious species, but at the same time very wary of its surroundings. They are omnivores, eating anything they can find. The saber teeth are only for show and attracting a mate.

The Story of Orion, the first Tuk

Orion was the first Tuk, before the Tuk had a name or even a set home planet. He lived out his days for many Millennia in peace in the oceans of his planet he made his home. Being a gentle soul, when the scientists came he didn't fight them. See, the scientists wanted to replicate the species as they found it very interesting. After they captured him, they took his DNA to replicate the species. They were able to do it, and still are able to do it. But somewhere their experiments went wrong. See, the Vanduo Tuk (as they called them-it means "water tooth") could still choose their coloration based on environment, but they could not live forever as Orion does.

As he lived in captivity, he longed for freedom and spent many nights staring at the stars. He began to wish he looked different so that the scientists wouldn't want him anymore. As he looked for what to color his fur, he looked all about him and noticed the beautiful colors swirling around his head. This was the cosmos. His fur began to color as the galaxies and stars turned. In his eyes, tiny galaxies can be seen for those who look close enough.

So now Orion is the only one with galaxy markings as there was not much else that he could base his markings off of since that was about all he could see from his cage. He also the only immortal Tuk.

He is still a very gentle soul, but now a wary one.
